Pre-Reading Activities and Their Effects On English Reading Comprehension of ESL Basic School Pupils

چکیده

The study sought to ascertain the effect of pre-reading activities on English reading comprehension upper primary pupils in Ho-West Basic Schools Volta Region Ghana. adopted concurrent mixed method design which aimed at gathering both quantitative and qualitative data simultaneously. sample size consisted 18 teachers 99 pupils. was drawn using census, simple random purposive sampling techniques. A structured questionnaire semi-structured interview guide were used collect respectively. Questionnaire analysed frequencies, percentages, means, standard deviation while thematically discussed. findings showed that motivate sustain pupils’ interest actual activity. They also activate building related information such a way new is easily assimilated into learners’ existing fields knowledge. Though play critical role classroom, revealed significant number do not use them. few who do, neither variety them nor regularly. recommends curriculum developers implementors should incorporate appropriate regular for assigned texts classroom.
